IQ DICTIONARY

An English-Spanish dictionary built to help you learn, not just look up.

More than 1.3 million entries in English and Spanish, with translations, synonyms, antonyms, definitions, examples, quotations, phonetics and conjugations. All offline.

In development for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. It's also built and tested on Android, though publishing there is still undecided. Needs iOS or iPadOS 16, macOS 13, or later.

WHO IT'S FOR

Four reasons to open it

The same dictionary serves different needs.

  1. 01

    You work in English

You need the right translation for the context, fast and offline.

  2. 02

    You're studying English or Spanish

Pronunciation, examples, conjugations and vocabulary review.

  3. 03

You translate, or work with language professionally

Depth: technical terms, regionalisms and register levels.

  4. 04

    You used Unabridged Dictionary

That app no longer exists. We built everything from scratch: we reviewed more than 300,000 dictionary texts, corrected more than 13,000 and added new translations and images.

What the app includes

The dictionary's full engine, with features the old app never had.

Instant search

Suggestions as you type, in both languages at once, recognizing plurals, feminine forms and conjugated forms.

The full word view

Translations, synonyms, antonyms, definitions, examples and quotations, grouped by part of speech and tagged by register, region and subject area.

Pronunciation and phonetics

System-voice audio in nine accents, with adjustable speed, plus IPA and Spanish syllable breaks.

Full conjugation

Every simple and compound Spanish tense, with tú or vos, plus the past tense and participle of English irregular verbs.

Lists, notes and history

Save words to your own lists or the ones that come preloaded, add a note per sense, and step back through your search history.

Register and region filters

Hide slang, offensive terms, outdated words, or ones tied to a region you're not interested in; offensive terms stay hidden by default.

What we don't do with your searches

The alpha has no accounts and no server of our own: the dictionary, your history, your lists and your notes stay on your device. No third-party analytics, no tracking.

  • What you search never leaves the device

No search is ever sent to a server. The one planned exception is a future AI-suggestion feature, which will carry its own notice.

  • The dictionary is read-only

The dictionary opens read-only; your data (history, lists and notes) lives separately, on your own device.

  • No charges, no accounts in the alpha

The alpha asks for no account and charges nothing; the business model is still undecided.

IQ Dictionary is a working name

The project is in development. The name, the exact features and availability on each store may change before launch.
